This song was made famous by Bobby Darin back in the 1960's. To me the cute melody has always stood out. It makes a wonderful song to sing to a little girl...or even a little boy...if you change the words a bit. All lullabies don't have to be dreary and slow. Why not sing this one to your little one. I am sure it will bring a smile to your face and calm a crying eye.
Dream Lover
by Bobby Darin
Every night I hope and pray, a dream lover would come my way
A girl to hold in my arms, and know the magic of her charms
Because I want, a girl, to call my own
I want a dream lover so I don't have to dream alone.
Dream lover, where are you? with a love oh so true
And a hand that I can hold, to feel you near when I grow old
Becaue I want, a girl, to call my own
I want a dream lover so I don't have to dream alone.
You can sing the song as it was originally written...as I have done...or you can change the words to suit your child.
One suggestion might be (lyric changes in bold):
Every night I hoped and prayed, a little girl would come my way
A girl to hold in my arms, and know the magic of her charms
Becaue I want a girl to call my own
I want a little girl so I don't have to dream alone.
Sweet girl, here are you...with a love oh so true
And a hand that I can hold, to feel you near when I grow old.
Because I want a girl to call my own.
I want a sweet girl so I don't have to dream alone.
